Hi folks,

I am wondering: If GNU/Linux is really this nice to build your own encrypted persistent USB Distribution to boot from every computer, why are still so many people carrying their personal notebook with them in order to access personal files/tools?

Wouldn't a great out-of-the-box distribution like UberStudent or Linux Mint (wireless drivers, video drivers, ...) perfectly replace the need to take your own PC? Nearly everywhere you go (your friend's house, family, office), there already is a PC ready for you to plug in your USB drive.

Besides the fact that a PC could require some drivers not provided by Linux or something, am I missing some real disadvantage of using a non-personal PC with your own portable system?

There are too many places sans computer where people want to be able to use their computer: cafes, parks, buses, etc. ...And even places with public computers, such as libraries, have only a limited number of available computers; why wait in line for a public computer when you can simply whip out your notebook/laptop? Notebooks/laptops would only be obsoleted once visualization and input technologies for smartphones exceed those of laptops/notebooks.
