Hi ALL - I'm looking for a bit of direction - I updated my system to the recommended video driver, from XORG to NVidia, not wise, as I've come to learn. Consequently my system won't boot. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to restore the original. I have tried the access thru the boot up, as it comes to the video files and asks if I want to restore etc but my internet access is wifi and as yet I haven't been able to update and restore. Is there another way to do this, perhaps replacing the files directly via another system. I have LMDE as a dual boot with Uberstudent.

I could give you a series of steps to fix this but it's actually FAR easier and takes MUCH less time and has essentially ZERO possible snags if you simply re-install UberStudent in to the exact same partition it is currently installed in, using the "Something Else" option at the installer. Then, avoid the proprietary driver causing your particular system troubles, i.e., just keep the open source driver.

If your system works for its purposes, let it be. If you truly NEED the proprietary driver to do operations such as high-end gaming or intensive video rendering, let me know and I'll give you further guidance. As a rule, avoid proprietary drivers unless you have some unavoidably imminent reason to install them--install them ONLY in the case that you CANNOT reasonably do your desired tasks without them.

Based on your post, you might have files you would lose from an installed system if you simply re-installed, i.e., over-wrote everything on a previous installation. You can boot into an UberStudent live disc and move files from anywhere on your computer to an external drive.
