Hi
I am trying to dual-install Uberstudent (4.3 64) on a Lenovo Ideapad 310-151K notebook which already has Windows 10.
The notebook has 8GB ram, a 128GB SSD, a 1TB HDD and an I5-7200U processor. I am trying to install in onto an approximately 40GB partition with 12GB Swap partition.

I am installing from a USB which I created with RUFIS, the UBS boots successfully and the install beings effectively until it gets to the 'update-grub' stage (I have tried it 3 times). Each time I get the error I also get a frozen/inactive screen telling me about error reporting. I have to shut the notebook down with the power button.
When I retry the instillation I have to delete the install and swap partition and start the instillation from scratch.

I would appreciate input, solution(s) and/or ideas for this problem?

Regards

What is the exact error message that you are encountering? As UberStudent 4.3 is derived from Xubuntu/Ubuntu, Ubuntu forums such as AskUbuntu.com probably already have a resolution for your error.

The error message is in a box titled Unable to configure grub and reads Executing “update grub“ failed This is a fatal error
I click OK and am presented with an Installer crashed info box containing Were sorry... after you close this window we will allow you to file a bug report using integrated tool... etc
It is at this point the system is frozen! And needs to be shut down with the power button.
If I then try and boot from the onboard Uberstudent partition I get a GNU GRUB version 2.02... screen which has some text beginning with Minimal Bash-like editing...
I have been looking at a number of Ubuntu forum threads, but so far I havent found anything relating to this problem.

See https://askubuntu.com/a/891904. Does that fix things?

Hi
Thanks for the links.
My actions so far;
I have tried loading a new verified download of Uberstudent using the “Erase disk and install Uberstudent” option on a clean/formatted/blank SSD and I have retried loading it along side windows with the “Something else” option. Each time I get the now familiar error message; Executing “update grub“ failed This is a fatal error and system crash.
But I have made some progress, while I was trying to install in onto an approximately 40GB partition with 12GB Swap area, I have now included a 150MB EFI Boot partition with the 12GB Swap and 51.8GB partitions.
While the install still crashes during the ”Update Grub” stage, the crash doesn’t immediately freeze the system and the loaded OS does work for a while before it crashes and freezes the notebook.

Regards.
