Post subject:  Boot issues

Well once again I tried to make some changes and then ended up causing issues. I tried to delete Windows 7 and only leave UberStudent. I managed to do it by following instructions I found online. But it did something to the boot process. Now the laptop wont boot, it gives an error. But I can get it to boot if I run UberStudent live, interrupt that process and then pick the option to boot from hard drive. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

What is the exact error?

When I try to boot up normally it says "non system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready."
I have a refurbished HP probook 6450b. I've had UberStudent on it for a few years now. Thanks for your time.

That error means that your hard-drive's boot sector no longer contains boot data that is usable by your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI; when you deleted Windows you somehow also deleted the portion of your GRUB boot loader which was in the boot sector. From your UberStudent liveCD you can install and run software for repairing your boot sector such as Boot-Repair.

I followed all the directions from the link you provided but it didnt fix it. I got a message saying that the OS files are far from the start of the disk. I really appreciate all the help. I am still a basic noob, but of all the linux distros I tried this has been my favorite and I'm not going to stop trying to get it right! It said I need to use gparted to fix it. I used gparted to delete Windows 7 and then this issue happened. Is there maybe a place to get good directions for this issue? Many thanks!

Since Boot-Repair failed to fix your issue, your next option is manually reinstalling GRUB. As UberStudent is derived from Xubuntu/Ubuntu, Ubuntu forums such as AskUbuntu.com are a good place to get directions for issues like this.

"How can I repair GRUB?"
