Post subject:  Changes in UberStudent after using "Boot-Repair-Disk"

Hello,

Yesterday I used Boot-Repair-Disk because when I turned on my laptop, a "grub rescue" prompt appeared on the screen. This fixed the problem, but unwanted changes occurred, maybe due to changes in the installed packages the program did.
The first thing I noticed was the boot menu, it says Ubunto instead of UberStudent, but another options are different too.
The Applications menu is not the same. Menu entries and some icons changed. In the top panel, the Update Manager icon is missing. You can see examples of this in https://www.dropbox.com/s/fpcy7fj2olzib1m/menu.png and https://www.dropbox.com/s/d7ppqpn69perymv/panel0.png.
One more thing: from yesterday to today, I had have to reset my laptop three times or so because it got really slow and finally it froze.

How can I restore my UberStudent?

Yesterday I forgot to say I tried Main Menu Restorer without results. Also, I can't run Synaptic from the menu, an error message appears saying something like synaptic launcher (file or folder) doesn't exist :!: but I can run it from console. There the message that appears is:
Code:
(synaptic:24822): IBUS-WARNING **: The owner of /home/_myusername_/.config/ibus/bus is not root!

(synaptic:24822): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_hide: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
/usr/bin/deborphan: El archivo de estado está en un estado inconsiste.       (it should be "inconsistente")
Hay uno o más paquetes marcados como medio-instalados, medio-configurados, desempaquetados, esperando-triggers o pendiente-triggers. Saliendo.

It says the status file is in a inconsistent state, 1 or more packages marked as half-installed, half-configured, unpacked, waiting-triggers or pending-triggers. I don't know what is the meaning of that, but it doesn't sound well...

If you need more information, please let me know.
I'll be grateful for your help!!!

This sounds like too much to unwind, to figure out what might have gone on. I suggest re-installing!

If youre laptop is switching off, sorry to say that your laptop getting old and tired. Does it do the same thing at other times?

It slows down infrequently, unless there are too many processes running or several days without turning it off (with only suspend or sleep). Only this time, just after running BRD, was when it froze so often, but now it is better.

Oh, I was afraid that you would tell me that!
Is there really no other solution, like installing missing pakages or something similar? I'd rather not install again the OS because last time was problematic.

HEY! Look at this I found! Update Manager and other packages are not installed, uberstudentsystem among them... Maybe that is the problem? What do you think?

Yes, do apply all updates. Always. :-)

Hello,

I think I didn't explained clearly enough. Right now, I can't apply any updates because (according with Synaptic) Update Manager isn't installed!!!, issue I discovered yesterday. This is the reason for which its icon disappeared in the top panel, as I stated in the first post.

Yesterday I tried to install via Synaptic uberstudentupdate and the other 5 packages listed as missing (we can see them in my yesterday picture). However, only 2 packages were totally installed: uberstudent-info-xfce and uberstudentsystem, while uberstudent-xfce-default-settings-enduser appears as broken. The rest of packages, including uberstudentupdate, was NOT installed :( (but why??)

The good news are that the icons missing in the Applications menu came back!, and now menu link for Synaptic is working, although strange things continue happening.

I don't understand why a software intended for boot repairing has to unistall unrelated packages :/

Well, I hope I have explained things more clearly. Thanks for your time. :)

I concur; if your priority is functionality, re-installing will most likely be your fastest path.

Hello. Yes, I thank your suggestion and agree it'd be faster, but last time I tried to install UberStudent I had several problems (some yeasr ago, though) and finally I installed it with the help of the tutorial on how to convert Xubuntu in UberStudent (which is now outdated).
I don't know if this time I can install without complications. I don't know if I have to re-install Grub again and I don't know if it is possible to skip that step.
That is why I have continued to insist on other solutions ...

Is there something you think you might lose, or specific problems you think might occur, by simply reinstalling? UberStudent had some installation issues for some people in cycles prior 4.* that are not in 4.*.
