Stephen,

I've installed UberStudent 4.0 from uberstudent-4.0-xfce-amd64.iso and it can log in OK. Unfortunately I cannot change the default language to British English. This is affecting the default keyboard and spellchecking in LibreOffice. Clicking on the American flag in the login window opens up another window with a choice of variations of English, but none of them can be selected. This wasn't a problem in UberStudent 3.0.

Changes to the login window that I would find helpful are:
- if there is only one user that it is automatically selected
- if the default language is changed then this should be saved for the next session. This just seems a bit discourteous to users outside the USA.

Please let me have your thoughts on these issues.

Peter

1. Log in to UberStudent and go to Applications > System > Administration > Language Support. You will be asked for your password several times.

2. It will detect that en_UK in incomplete. Click Install. Select Regional Formats tab and select "English (United Kingdom)," and then drag and drop that language to the top in the dialog and hit "Apply System Wide."

3. Reboot and select your language at the login.

In case that does not have the desired affect, do this:

1. Hit Alt+F2 on your keyboard and run this line:

Code:
gksu leafpad /etc/default/locale

Change the top line to say
Code:
LANG="en_GB.UTF-8"

2. Save the file and reboot.

I'll look in to why the switcher in the log screen might not be functioning as it should, but this will get the language switched for you straightway.

Thanks Stephen,

I now get the UK flag in the login window and UK settings by default.

In the interest of reporting bugs rather than leaving it to others:

As noted in your release notes, the Applications menu takes a few clicks before it opens each time.
After updating, the blue shield icon does not disappear, leaving a green shield icon with a tooltip of 'Your system is up to date' and a blue shield icon with a tooltip of 'x recommended updates available (xxKB)'.
The magnifying glass icon opens Linelight, but this window cannot be maximised, minimised, resized and most importantly closed.

You probably know about these issues already.

This is going to take me numerous hours to fix. I'll release the fix in the repository by probably this time next week.

This is the normal behavior so as to not overly use resources. A file uberstudentUpdate.py runs and updates the blue shield message every 15 minutes.

This also is the normal behavior. To hide it, click the magnifying glass icon again--it both calls and hides the interface. To enlarge the interface, search for something. It will then expand to accommodate the files and their paths it locates--no smaller or larger. Linelight is not the prettiest search tool but it is lightning fast, very low on resource usage, does not require the user to make a database of files, is not limited by an internal memory, and you can open or browse the files right from it.
