Post subject:  Computer still suspends while VLC is playing videos

Hello!
I remember solving this issue when I was using another distro with LXDE as DE, but couldn't figure out how to do it in XFCE. When I'm watching videos using VLC media player, VLC turns off screensaver, that works, however does not inhibit suspend. I'm sure you've all fixed it yourselves but how did you do it?
PS: I have "Inhibit the power management daemon during playback" under advanced and "disable screensaver" under video settings in VLC.
Thanks in advance,
Berker

It's a known and unfixed bug in VLC. :| The easiest workaround is to simply use the Xfce Power Manager to avoid the behavior while you're watching a movie.

Mr. Ewen,
Do you use a script that inhibits suspend while VLC is open or something like that? Or do you watch movies using totem? In short, how did you work around this problem? Right now, I move the mouse from time to time which greatly decreases the pleasure of watching movies :(

UberStudent 4.0 comes with a screensaver inhibitor that inhibits the screensaver when you are watching a fullscreen movie in VLC or totem. The movie *must* be playing in fullscreen mode for it to work. Go to Applications menu > Multimedia > Utilities > Showtime to start or stop the service. Basically, before you watch a fullscreen movie, run Showtime, and when the movie is done, stop Showtime.

Does this work for you?

Alternately, it really is almost as as easy to just go to Settings menu > Screensaver, disable the screensaver while you watch a movie, and then re-enable it when your show is finished.
